The July/August issue of Wax Poetics — the record collectors’ bible — is hitting stands now. Inside is a six-page spread on the Nasher Museum’s upcoming exhibition, “The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl.”
Five artists included in “The Record” — William Cordova, Mingering Mike, Dave Muller, Dario Robleto and Xaviera Simmons — wrote mini-essays, each on a personally significant record from their collections. The image-laden spread includes some of the art in the show and reveals an array of musical influences and tastes. You can read the unabridged version of Cordova’s essay on our blog.
The gorgeous spread highlights a nexus of art, music, record collecting and memory. To (perhaps unfairly) excerpt from Dave Tompkins’s introductory piece:
“the memory gets more spins than the record itself.”
