The ninth annual Art Basel Miami Beach began at 10 a.m. with shrimp cocktail (no, thank you) and champagne (well, maybe just one, thank you) at a press conference attended by what must be the world’s most fashionable journalists.
Then, finally, at 11 a.m., members of the press and top-tier VIPs (collectors,  museum directors and curators, artists) were permitted to push into the fair.
Watch a short video of the rush here.
We are still processing the excitement of so many wonderful works of art under one roof. More details will follow.
For now, here is our photo album of the first few scenes from Art Basel Miami Beach on Flickr.com.
