Blog / Happy Birthday, Calder!

Google is excited about Alexander Calder’s birthday, and so are we!
The mobile-turned-logo on Google’s homepage today reminds us that our exhibition honoring the inventor of the modern mobile, “Alexander Calder and Contemporary Art: Balance, Form, Joy,” opens February 16, 2012. The exhibition pairs some 34 masterworks by Alexander Calder with the work of seven contemporary artists whose practices are inspired by Calder.
Calder’s genius is hard to replicate, apparently–even online.  Search Engine Roundtable:  “But did you know Google tried posting the logo last year and failed? In fact, they also posted the logo yesterday (which was today) in Australia and pulled it down for a couple hours and replaced it.”
