FREE FAMILY DAY / Sunday, December 8, Noon - 4 PM / Families can celebrate the Nasher Museum’s current exhibitions with hands-on art activities and a gallery hunt through the museum. The Lost Nomads will perform Middle Eastern music at 1 PM and 2:30 PM. The Lost Nomads performances will include belly dancing by Amara of the Electric Shimmy. Activities are designed for kids ages 3-12 and their accompanying adults. All ages are welcome. Admission is free for this special family program.

ACKLAND ART MUSEUM: TEA AT TWO / Richard J. Powell on Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist / Friday, December 13, 2 PM / Modernist painter Archibald J. Motley, Jr. (1891-1981) is one of the most significant yet least visible 20th-century artists, despite the broad appeal of his paintings. Motley's art into sharp focus with a teatime talk hosted by Richard J. Powell, John Spencer Bassett Professor of Art, Art History & Visual Studies at Duke, at the Ackland Art Museum. Powell organized Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist, the first retrospective of Motley’s paintings in two decades, which will open at the Nasher Museum on January 30, 2014, starting a national tour. More.
