WELCOME
CURATOR OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART / Marshall Price has been appointed to the newly created position of curator of modern and contemporary art at the Nasher Museum, museum director Sarah Schroth announced.
Price comes to the museum from New York, where he has been curator of modern and contemporary art at the National Academy Museum for the past 11 years. At the Nasher Museum, Price will organize new exhibitions and programs and take a leading role with Duke faculty and students on special projects. He will begin his position as Nancy Hanks Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art in March. Read more.
WORKSHOP
FREE TEACHER WORKSHOP / Tuesday, February 11, 4 PM / This free workshop for K-12 teachers will focus on the exhibition Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist. The program will include hands-on activities, time to explore the exhibition and a light reception. Participants will receive partial CEU credit and interdisciplinary curriculum-based materials to use in the classroom. Register online.
SKETCH
SKETCHING IN THE GALLERIES / Saturday, February 15, 10 AM / After a quick warm-up activity, visitors can practice sketching works of art around the museum. We’ll supply the paper and drawing utensils. Pens and wet media are not permitted in the Nasher Museum galleries. Free and open to the public.

BLACK MASCULINITY, GENIUS AND THE EXPRESSIVE ARTS / Thursday, February 20, 7 PM / Guthrie P. Ramsey, University of Pennsylvania, and Mark Anthony Neal, Duke University, celebrate their new books The Amazing Bud Powell: Black Genius, Jazz History and The Challenge of Bebop and Looking for Leroy: Illegible Black Masculinities. They will be joined in a wide-ranging conversation about Black masculinity, genius and the expressive arts by cultural critic and musician Greg Tate.
