EXHIBITION OPENING PARTY! Nina Chanel Abney: Royal Flush
Thursday, February 16, 6-10 PM
Join us in celebrating the first solo exhibition in a museum for Nina Chanel Abney. Meet the artist and see her paintings, watercolors and collages – many of them 8 and 9 feet tall, including a large mural she painted on the entrance wall of the exhibition. Join a guided discussion in the galleries, enjoy refreshments and experience live performances by student musicians and special guests inspired by Abney’s visual commentary on social justice, contemporary urban life, media, hip-hop culture and more. Also meet Marshall N. Price, Nancy Hanks Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, who organized the groundbreaking exhibition. Free and open to all!

Artist Harriet Hoover will share a brief sketching demonstration–and then you can try it out in the galleries. The museum will provide drawing pencils and sketch pads. This program is free with general museum admission ($5 for adults).
