Rare Barkley L. Hendricks Paintings: This Fall at Prospect.4
Some of Barkley L. Hendricks’s most striking portrait paintings will be highlighted in the upcoming triennial Prospect New Orleans, titled Prospect.4: The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp, on view in New Orleans, Louisiana, November 18, 2017 – February 25, 2018. The selection will predominantly include portraits from 1970-2016 that were not part of Barkley’s highly acclaimed painting retrospective, Barkley L. Hendricks: Birth of the Cool, which originated at the Nasher Museum in 2008 before traveling around the country. Some of the works surfaced after publicity from Birth of the Cool; others were painted by Barkley in recent years. Prospect.4 is curated by Nasher Museum Chief Curator Trevor Schoonmaker.
