Kristin L. Huffman, instructor in Duke’s Department of Art, Art History & Visual Studies, gives a talk on Jacopo de’ Barbari’s View of 1500, a multi-media exhibition that brings to life the city of Venice. Huffman organized this exhibition within The Collection Galleries.

The Nasher Museum invites public school teachers for a special evening! Join Assistant Curator Molly Boarati for an introductory overview of The Medici’s Painter: Carlo Dolci and 17th-Century Florence. Discover exciting ways this exhibition can be utilized in your classrom and what to expect when you bring your students on tours. Meet and mingle with colleagues, create art inspired by the exhibition, enjoy free food and drink, including beer and wine, in the Great Hall. Don't miss our door prizes! Participating teachers will receive 0.3 continuing education credits.

Bilingual Storytime
Bilingual Storytime at the Nasher with Durham County Library

Join museum staff and our friends from Durham County Library for our new monthly Bilingual Storytime at the Nasher. Settle into our galleries for a fun and exciting story read in Spanish by staff from Durham Public Library and then participate in a short discussion about art. Afterwards we will move into a classroom for some art-making opportunities.

This program is free for kids ages 1-5 and their adult caregivers. Groups of 8 or more must register in advance by emailing nashered@duke.edu.

Join Gallery Guide Mary Jean Lowrie for a themed tour entitled “Carlo Dolci: A Man of Devotion.” Lowrie will discuss Dolci’s religious works and how his piousness and devotion translated into his art in multiple ways. Free with a ticket to The Medici’s Painter.

Director Talk "Ways of Seeing Carlo Dolci"

Nasher Museum Director Sarah Schroth was instrumental in bringing The Medici’s Painter: Carlo Dolci and 17th-Century Florence to Duke. She will give a talk about Dolci, who was a favorite of the Medici court and a celebrated and popular artist in his day. His personal and original interpretation of sacred subjects fell out of favor in the 19th century, however. The Medici’s Painter invites us to see this artist with new eyes. Lecture hall doors open at 6:30 PM. Space is limited. $5 or free with a ticket to The Medici’s Painter. Free to all members.

Journey across the Atlantic and back in time to the Italy of yesteryear to explore The Medici’s Painter and A Portrait of Venice. Dress up like a Medici in a portrait booth, interact with instruments in a musical petting zoo and make a map of your neighborhood inspired by Jacopo de’ Barbari! Free Family Days at the Nasher Museum are supported by The Forest at Duke.
