We just had to share this lovely review in The New Yorker of artist William Cordova’s show at Sikkema Jenkins in New York:
Do not miss this. The Peruvian-born Cordova is a laconic magus of metaphysical intimations in a blizzard of rough subjects, such as street gangs and graffiti, and materials that range from old LP covers and scraps of varied trash to gold leaf. Borges and Paz are cited, apropos labyrinths, without pretension. In a grainy video projection, just seconds long, a rimless bicycle tire rolls, wobbling, at a decrepit urban site, to a snatch of rap: “Get what I’m saying. Forever.” A title card gives an exact latitude and longitude. Any event, while it occurs, is the center of the universe and a portal to eternity. Through Dec. 5.
