Mark Anthony Neal took a field trip recently with his production crew for “Left of Black,” a weekly webcast billed as “a contrarian view of blackness,” from their studio at Duke’s John Hope Franklin Center. They came to the Nasher Museum to film Episode No. 11, featuring Trevor Schoonmaker, Patsy R. and Raymond D. Nasher Curator of Contemporary Art, and the exhibition he organized,  “The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl.”

Mark and Trevor had a terrific conversation about Trevor’s recent exhibitions, then took a stroll through “The Record.”

Mark is a professor of black popular culture in Duke’s Department of African and African American Studies. He writes the New Black Man blog and is the author of five books, a frequent commentator for National Public Radio and a regular columnist for theLoop21.com.
