NASHER MUSEUM OF ART AT DUKE UNIVERSITY

On the cover of Artforum: Pinch us!

By Wendy

The April issue of Artforum, the preeminent art world magazine, features “Barkley L. Hendricks: Birth of the Cool” on the cover. We could not be more thrilled for Barkley, whose traveling retrospective was organized by Trevor Schoonmaker, curator of contemporary art here at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University.
Critic Huey Copeland saw the show at the Studio Museum in Harlem: “… a rhyming and rhythmic layout of individuals and groups, dark paintings and light ones, men and women …” He also suggests that someday the world will need a retrospective of the fuller range of Hendricks’s practice, which includes sculpture, photography and more. The exhibition opens next at the Santa Monica Museum of Art on May 16. Congratulations, Barkley!
