Art museums have been an important part of the university experience ever since the Yale University Art Gallery was established in 1832. That’s according to an informative and passionate paper by Kimerly Rorschach, Mary D.B.T. and James H. Semans director of the Nasher Museum.
A New York Times article about art museums that enhance college curriculums on Thursday quoted Rorschach and her paper, “Why Do Universities Have Museums?”
“Students need to learn things and to be innovative and entrepreneurial in this new global world,” Rorschach said, in the NYT article. “Art is about communicating effectively, about communicating visually, about understanding.”
