From our friends at Outsider Art and Collectibles in Durham:
Come out tomorrow evening, Thursday April 12, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., for the opening of “The Cut Up Method,” an exhibition on the work of Ashville-based artist Gabriel Shaffer. As a pioneer of “urban folk art” and a true Outsider artist, Shaffer is a refreshing visionary in the contemporary American art scene. Taking inspiration from an eclectic mix of folk and street art and working with a wide range of media and found objects, he reconsiders themes of Southern spiritualism and regional history in an urban light. Shaffer’s work will be on view at Outsider Gallery through May 10.

Pie Pushers and The Parlour food trucks will be outside the gallery tomorrow evening. The Book Harvest will also be collecting new or gently used books to donate to children and young adults. A $5 donation is suggested at the door.

Outsider Art and Collectibles, the only gallery in Durham specializing in Southern Outsider Art, is located at 718 Iredell Street. For more information, please call 919-451-3231 or visit outsiders-art.com.
