Music Meditation with Taz Arnold - 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Taz Arnold will guide a daytime music meditation workshop in the Nasher Museum’s Great Hall as part of Moogfest, the annual multi-day music, art and technology festival. This event is  free and open to the public. All Moogfest pass holders enjoy free admisssion to the museum throughout the festival, May 19th- May 22nd, 2016.

Taz Arnold, a.k.a. TI$A, is a 21st century cultural icon. As the founder of Sa-Ra and a pioneer of genre-bending electronic-infused soul, Arnold has impacted the next generation of artists from Kanye West to Kendrick Lamar. Taz’s fusion of sound brings together diverse vibrations of jazz, soul, funk, rock, electronic, R&B, and hip-hop into a unique blend of futuristic rhythm beyond categorization. The fusion of influences are evident on Taz’s recent production and vocal contributions to Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy nominated “To Pimp a Butterfly” as well as his forthcoming collaborative project “Hood Love.” Scheduled for release in 2016, “Hood Love” is the new crown jewel of Taz’s library, which already includes contributions to Dr. Dre’s Chronic 2001 and production for Erykah Badu, Iggy Pop, and more.

Free Slow Art Tour – The Harrowing of Hell - 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Enjoy art at a different pace. Instead of an exhibition overview, Slow Art Tours spend 30-45 minutes with a single work of art.

Saturday’s discussion will focus on the anonymous 16th-century German painting The Harrowing of Hell. This arresting painting depicts the moment when Jesus descends into purgatory, before the resurrection. In our example, the Lenten subject is paired with surprising imagery relating to the Counter-Reformation movement. Seating is provided and the discussion will be led by gallery guide Ruth Caccavale.
