Nasher10 Unplugged: Downtown Durham Block Party - 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Nasher10 Unplugged is a downtown Durham block party to celebrate the Nasher Museum’s first decade at Duke and in Durham. This celebration will commemorate a new public art project, a mural painted by artist Odili Donald Odita on the Foster Street wall of the Downtown Durham YMCA, 218 W. Morgan St. Throughout the day, local artists and community organizations will present artistic responses to the mural, including a performance work by local artist Harrison Haynes. Visitors can enjoy music, food trucks and accessible art-making for kids by Zot Arts. The Art of Cool All-Star Band, a professional jazz quintet led by Al Strong, will play a 30-minute set followed by a 30-minute open jam session with young people. The day will culminate in the free screening of a documentary film about the mural directed by local filmmaker Anna Kipervaser. Odita and Kipervaser will both be present during the celebration.

Collections Come to Light: Nasher Museum of Art and Duke Gardens - 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Join us for a special afternoon to combine your love for art, photography, horticulture and landscapes. Curators will take us through several of the new galleries at the Nasher Museum, followed by activities at Duke Gardens. The New Galleries: A Collection Come to Light is a comprehensive and dynamic reinstallation of the Nasher Museum’s collection. We will focus on an installation of Ansel Adams photography and galleries featuring European art. At Duke Gardens you have a choice between a photography walk, emphasizing the techniques of Ansel Adams, or a garden design walk that translates design strategies from paintings into the landscape with ideas you can use in your own gardens.

Fee: $15. Gardens/Nasher members: $12.
