Nasher Reads Author Series with Lee Smith - 3:00 PM

Hillsborough author Lee Smith will give a reading and talk from her newest book, Dimestore: A Writer’s Life, a book of essays that provide a portrait of her own life as well as a look at life in the Appalachian South.
Visitors are encouraged to read the book prior to discussions. Books are available for purchase in the Nasher Museum Store.

Gallery Talk – Medieval Stained Glass - 6:00 PM

Alexandra Dodson will talk about recently conserved works of stained glass in the museum’s collection. She will also discuss such Medieval art-making processes as stained glass and mixing pigments. Alexandra earned a doctorate degree from Duke’s Department of Art, Art History & Visual Studies, specializing in the art and architecture of late Medieval and early modern Italy. The talk takes place in the Medieval Gallery, part of The Collection Galleries.

Family Day

Free Family Day - 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Free Family Days take place on select Sundays from 12-4 PM. On these days families visiting the museum enjoy live entertainment, create hands-on projects and explore exhibitions with a gallery hunt. Materials will be available in English and Spanish.

 

Admission to the museum is free on Family Days.

Nasher Reads – Black Panther by Ta-Nehisi Coates - 11:00 AM

Join Patrick Holt, Adult Services Librarian from the Durham County Library, and museum gallery guides Kathy World and Ruth Caccavale to discuss Black Panther, by Ta-Nehisi Coates. This book is a graphic telling of the politically charged story of Wakanda and the dramatic upheavals faced by its citizens. Part of the conversation will take place in the exhibition Nina Chanel Abney: Royal Flush. The group will consider how Abney’s work relates to graphic storytelling.

Family Day

Free Family Day - 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Creative collisions at the Nasher! Get inspired by places where visual art, poetry and dance intersect! The Arts in Action LEAP team will present an energetic dance performance inspired by art on view. Poetry Fox will set up his typewriter to create original poems for visitors. Watch an artist create new works of art ─ and then make your own, at activity stations throughout the museum.

 

Admission to the museum is free on Family Days.
