Tour with Your Tot - 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Caregivers with small children ages 0-18 months can take guided public tours of the Nasher Museum’s exhibitions. Tours are offered Thursdays at 11 AM. Tours last approximately 30 minutes. No reservations necessary. Children must be in a carrier or a stroller during the guided tour. Adults pay $5 museum admission. Museum members and tots are free.

Curator Talk - 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Meet Richard J. Powell, John Spencer Bassett Professor of Art, Art History & Visual Studies at Duke University, who organized Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist, the first retrospective of the American artist’s paintings in two decades, at the Nasher Museum. Powell is the recent recipient of the Smithsonian’s Lawrence A. Fleischman Award for Scholarly Excellence in the Field of American Art History. He teaches courses in American art, the arts of the African Diaspora and contemporary visual studies, and writes extensively on topics ranging from primitivism to postmodernism. He wrote African American Art: Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Movement, and Beyond (2012, with Virginia Mecklenburg), Cutting a Figure: Fashioning Black Portraiture (2008), Black Art: A Cultural History (1997 and 2002), Jacob Lawrence (1992), and Homecoming: The Art and Life of William H. Johnson (1991).  At the Nasher Museum, Powell and his students curated the exhibition Romare Bearden with an accompanying catalogue (2006).

Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist Teacher Workshop - 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

This workshop will focus on the exhibition Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist. This FREE program will also include hands-on activities, time to explore the exhibition independently and a light reception. Participants will receive partial CEU credit and interdisciplinary curriculum-based materials to use in the classroom. Register online

Sketching in the Galleries

Sketching in the Galleries - 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Following a brief drawing warm-up activity, visitors can practice sketching artwork around the museum. Paper and drawing utensils will be supplied. Pens and wet media are not permitted in the Nasher Museum galleries.
