Public Tour - Rauschenberg

Gallery Tour: Duke Couples in Dialogue about Rauschenberg and Artists in the Collection - 6:00 PM

Join two scholarly Duke couples on a casual, personal and fun tour of Rauschenberg: Collecting & Connecting. Curator Kristine Stiles asked each couple to select works of art in the exhibition and think about them as “conversations” with an enormous range of interpretation. The tour will last approximately 45 minutes.

Join two scholarly Duke couples on a casual, personal and fun tour of Rauschenberg: Collecting & Connecting. Curator Kristine Stiles asked each couple to select works of art in the exhibition and think about them as “conversations” with an enormous range of interpretation. Couples are former Duke Provost Peter Lange and Lori Leachman, Duke’s Professor of the Practice and Director of Research in Practice Program in Economics, along with Bruce Lawrence, Duke’s Nancy and Jeffrey Marcus Professor of Religion, and miriam cooke, Braxton Craven Professor of Arab Cultures at Duke. Tours last about 45 minutes.

Miró is known to have said “I make no distinction between painting and poetry.”  Experience the later works of the artist during readings in English and Spanish of contemporary Spanish poetry.  Same day exhibition ticket required for gallery entrance.

Ferdinand the Bull

Celebrate Spain with Ferdinand the Bull - 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM

Hear readings in English and Spanish of The Story of Ferdinand written by Murno Leaf and illustrated by Robert Lawson.  After a related hands on activity, see the 1938 Disney animated short film Ferdinand the Bull.  Recommended for children ages 3-6 and their caregivers.

Le Bal Miró

Le Bal Miro - 2:00 PM

In 1981, Miró designed the ballet L’Uccello Luce (Bird Light), performed for the Venice Biennale at the Fenice Theatre.   Since his first ballet project half a century earlier, Miró had kept a sketchbook, which became the inspiration for this major artistic production.   Join us for a dynamic program that will combine the elements of discussion and performance to explore the themes of artistic process and collaboration in Miró’s work.
