School Tours

Tour slots are expected to fill quickly. Please call 919-684-8816 to schedule guided tours at least four weeks in advance. Scheduling depends on availability. Bus scholarships are available. Regular school tour visits at the Nasher Museum of Art will resume in January 2009.

Important information for scheduling FREE School Tours for "El Greco to Velázquez"

"El Greco to Velázquez" is a ticketed exhibition with timed entry. Thanks to the support of Bank of America we are able to offer free tickets for guided school tours scheduled in advance at 10:00 AM or 11:00 AM.

The Nasher Museum comes to your class!

For classes who take a guided tour of "El Greco to Velázquez" in the fall, a follow-up visit to your classroom is available upon request. These activities will be scheduled between January and May 2009.

Lunch: During "El Greco to Velázquez" there will not be space available for school groups to eat lunch.

Audio Guide

This Antenna Audio production is available in Spanish and English. The tour lasts approximately an hour and covers 20 works in the exhibition. The tour is random access and allows the visitor to select their own order and route through the exhibition. Renting the audio guide at the museum costs $3.

FREE Teacher Open House

Participants will view the "El Greco to Velázquez" exhibition and receive partial CEU credit, an exhibition poster and interdisciplinary curriculum-based materials to use in the classroom. This event is open only to current classroom teachers. Advance registration is required. Space is limited. When registering please specify which date you prefer and what time you would like to enter the exhibition: 4:30 PM, 5:00 PM or 5:30 PM. Contact nashered@duke.edu to register or call 919-684-8816.

Sarah Schroth, Curator of "El Greco to Velázquez" will give a slide talk about the exhibition and her original research on this period of Art History. Participants will learn about the optional post-visit by the Nasher Museum to your classroom, view the "El Greco to Velázquez" exhibition and receive partial CEU credit, an exhibition poster and interdisciplinary curriculum-based materials to use in the classroom. This event is open only to current classroom teachers. Advance registration is required, space is limited. When registering please specify which date you prefer. Registration for teacher programs will be accepted starting on May 5 for Durham Public Schools and May 19 for all schools. Slots are expected to fill quickly. Deadline for teacher program reservations is Friday, September 5, 2008.
