Nasher Museum of Art

How can I use visual materials in my teaching?

This site has a number of guides to help you and your students get started looking at works of art and objects.
Each guide features background information, questions, and additional resources. You can start with the “Looking,”
or begin with more specialized topics, looking by medium, genre, culture, and/or time period. There are also guides
about exhibitions, collecting, and various methodologies.

If you would like to incorporate visual materials into your teaching, check out the links and contacts below.

Using Art in Your Teaching

Request a Class Visit to the Nasher Museum

The Nasher Museum is open by appointment to Duke faculty, classes and students during Fall 2020.

We invite Duke faculty to reserve a time for their students to engage with the Nasher collection and exhibitions through in person self-guided tours and/or facilitated Zoom sessions with Nasher staff.

To make a reservation please fill out the class request form. If you have any questions or would like to discuss how the Nasher can support your teaching, whether in person, hybrid or online only, please email Ellen C. Raimond, Ph.D., Assistant Curator of Academic Initiatives, at ellen.raimond@duke.edu.

To keep the Duke community safe, all visitors entering the Nasher building agree to abide by The Duke Compact standards.

Talk with a Librarian

Staff at Duke Libraries can help you design a specialized LibGuide and meet with your class to discuss research strategies. Contact Lee Sorensen, Art and Dance Librarian (lslilly@duke.edu).
