The Nasher Museum of Art is pleased to offer an exclusive six-day trip to Rome for its Director’s Circle members. The itinerary is especially designed by Sarah Schroth, Nasher Museum director and Southern Baroque specialist, and Mary Angela Schroth, Director of Sala 1 Center for International Contempory Art, head of development and special projects/patrons of the arts in the Vatican Museums, and long-time resident of Rome.

Join the Schroth sisters as they provide special access to the Vatican, 17th-century churches with paintings by Caravaggio and architecture by Bernini, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the recently restored frescoes at the papal chapel in the Scala Santa, which contain the earliest landscape depictions in Italy. The dynamic duo will introduce the group to the heirs of the Doria-Pamphili family, who still own the Doria Palace and Galleria, home of Velázquez’s haunting portrait of Innocent X and Annibale Carracci’s landscapes, among other masterpieces collected by the famous Roman family.

Explore contemporary architecture in Rome by Renzo Piano (Parco della Musica) and Zaha Hadid (MAXXI), and meet the artistic director at MAXXI, Rome’s Museum of the 21st century. The tour will include visits to private collectors’ homes and contemporary artists’ studios, as well as the recently opened Gagosian Gallery. The group will dine together in some of Rome’s loveliest restaurants and enjoy free time to shop or wander the historic streets.
