Collecting Matisse Tours


The Nasher Museum of Art is accessible to everyone. We are happy to make arrangements for guided tours for visitors with disabilities.

Wheelchairs are available from the Information Desk.

Assistive listening devices are available upon request for museum auditorium lectures.


 

A free Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters: The Cone Sisters of Baltimore audio guide is available in English. The audio lasts approximately 30 minutes, Download the audio guide to a personal MP3 player. The museum also offers this audio guide at the information desk for a rental fee of $3. Audio guide rentals are free for museum members.

The audio guide is available as a 25 Meg .zip file containg 14 MP3s. Right Click / Save As to download.


Individuals, or groups of fewer than 10 people, may purchase tickets to a guided tour of the exhibition. Guided tours are offered Thursdays at 6 PM and Sundays at 2 PM.  Tour prices are $16 per person for adults, $15 per person for seniors, $10 for non-Duke students with student ID and Duke Staff with ID, and $4 per person for members and Duke Students with student ID (prices include admission to all exhibitions at the museum). Guided adult tours are available to groups of 10 to 30 people, Tuesday through Friday at 1:30 PM and 3 PM.  Guided tours tickets are $16 per person for adults and $15 for seniors. This includes admission to all exhibitions at the museum.  Scheduling is based on availability. Request a guided group tour.

Available: November 7, 2012 - February 8, 2013

Guided tours last 60 minutes for K-12 school groups.  On their tour, students will discuss works in the Collecting Matisse and Modern MastersTime Capsule, Age 13 to 21: The Contemporary Art Collection of Jason Rubell, and Mark Bradford exhibitions. Guided tours engage students in discussions about the artwork on view while encouraging critical thinking and the development of higher-order processing skills.

Before requesting a K-12 Guided Tour, please check this calendar for tour availability. Tour times listed on the calendar are currently available for the number of students listed in parenthesis. This calendar will be updated as often as possible, but it does not reflect a “real-time” schedule of K-12 tour reservations.

Nudity Disclaimer: The Nasher Museum of Art would like to make you aware that the exhibition Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters: The Cone Sisters of Baltimore contains some works that display the nude human figure. The museum realizes that teaching children about nudity can be a sensitive issue and a challenge. The artworks containing nudity will not be featured on our K-12 tours. However, they are visible in the galleries that students will be visiting. Our Education staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have about nudity in the galleries prior to your museum visit.


Self-guided groups or teacher-led school tours are permitted in all of our galleries. We highly recommend that educators preview exhibitions prior to the student visit to assure the content in each gallery is age appropriate.

Thursday, November 8, 2012, 4 - 7 PM

Attend this FREE event for educators to tour the exhibition Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters. The program will begin with a presentation about the exhibition. Participants will then explore independently and enjoy a light reception. Participants will also receive partial CEU credit and interdisciplinary curriculum-based materials to use in the classroom.

Registration deadline: Monday, November 5, 2012.
Educators who attend the workshop on October 18 will receive a ticket to this event. All others should register online now.  

The program is free, but space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. 


Duke classes that prearrange a visit to Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters will be admitted free of charge. University classes from other institutions will pay the regular student rate of $6 per student and the discounted rate of $6 for accompanying instructors.
