Volunteer Opportunities

During the El Greco to Velázquez exhibition, the following volunteer positions are available:

Welcome desk:
Answer questions on way-finding in the museum and around Durham (i.e., where is the bathroom? Where are good places to eat? How do I get to the Chapel/Gardens/etc?) Provide easy answers and maps for visitors. (Maps provided by the Nasher.)

Admission Line:
Greet people as they arrive and direct them to the correct line for tickets, will-call etc.

Exhibition Line:
Answer questions for people who are in line waiting to enter the exhibition; make sure the visitor has a ticket and that it is the correct date and time; hand out exhibition label booklets; inform people of exhibition policies (i.e., no touching, no photos, no food or drink).

Audioguide Station:
Volunteers will assist with audio guide sales, distribute the guides, and show visitors how to use them.

Ticket Taker:
Tear timed tickets at exhibition entrance

Family Day Assistant:
Welcome visitors, and assist kids and adults with hands-on craft projects. Family days are scheduled for Sunday, September 28 and Sunday, November 2.

Requirements to Volunteer:

  • At least 16 years old
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to engage in friendly interactions with museum visitors
  • Attend two 2-hour training sessions
