Activity Instructions
Display a portrait, such as Black Widow with Brothers Fighting, by Noah Davis. Ask open-ended questions about how she is feeling, such as,
- How is this woman feeling?
- Why do you think she is dressed this way?
- Why do you think she is crying?
- What does her crying make you think of?
Prompt students to support their inferences with facts by asking, What do you see that makes you say that? Or, ask more directly: What facts did you use to make that inference?
