Activity Instructions
Display an artwork, such as Motorcycle Riders, that depicts a scene from an earlier time period. Have students infer whether it was made in the past or present, asking them to support their inferences with facts.
Then, display an artwork that is notably more modern, such as Kayo. Once again, ask students to infer when it was made and support their inferences with facts.
Follow up by brainstorming questions that you could ask the artist. As a possible extension, students might write individual letters to the artist using some of the questions that the class came up with.
