Did you know that North Carolina has one of the largest concentrations of modernist houses in the U.S.? Modernist architecture is international in scope!

Mayberry Modernism: North Carolina’s Architectural Legacy is a community-wide celebration of North Carolina’s modernist architectural legacy and the impact of pioneering architects, designers and modernist theory on American popular culture and contemporary history.

U.S. Modernist CEO George Smart will present a captivating lecture on N.C. modernist architecture followed by the screening of short documentary films on architectural giants such as Mies van der Rohe, Philip Johnson, Julius Shulman and John Lautner. This program is free and open to students, architects, builders and the general public.

Sponsored by Durham County Library, Durham Technical Community College, NC NOMA, AIA Triangle, Diversify Architecture, Durham Public Schools, NC Modernists, the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, Durham Library Foundation, and Cassilhaus.

This program is supported by grant funds from the Durham Library Foundation, a non-profit organization that brings the library to life through fundraising, programming grants, and support for unique projects.
