This video documents a lively and critical conversation, “Collecting and Presenting Work by Artists of African Descent,” hosted by the Nasher Museum on February 11, 2016. The panel was moderated by Richard J. Powell, John Spencer Bassett Professor of Art and Art History at Duke. Participants: Holland Cotter, art critic, The New York Times; Thelma Golden, director of the Studio Museum in Harlem; Pamela Joyner, San Francisco art collector; Jack Shainman, New York gallery director; and Franklin Sirmans, director, Pérez Art Museum Miami. This event was a collaboration between the Nasher Museum, Ackland Art Museum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the North Carolina Central University Art Museum and the North Carolina Museum of Art.
