CARRIE MAE WEEMS SOCIAL STUDIES 101 PROJECT
“Carrie Mae Weems’s work includes the marginalized and also addresses the inequities of COVID-19. Like a support system, her photographs relieve me of pressure so I can express my anxiety. Much of the stress my family and I have gone through endures. It runs deep, too big to voice, but it can be danced through my body.” –Laura Gutierrez, Choreographer | Dancer based in Winston-Salem
Laura Gutierrez, a dance artist based in Winston-Salem, is one of 12 North Carolina artists selected by the American Dance Festival to present work in front of several installations of the outdoor exhibition created by artist Carrie Mae Weems.
