Kara Walker: Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated)
October 01, 2016 – March 06, 2017
The Nasher Museum invited faculty to respond to Kara Walker’s Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated), a portfolio of offset lithographs and screenprints installed in the Incubator Gallery from October 1, 2016 through March 6, 2017.
One powerful statement came from Thomas F. DeFrantz, Professor and Chair of African and African American Studies at Duke. Within an empty gallery space, DeFrantz and SLIPPAGE explored Walker’s work with shadowplay, dance and image subtraction technology. The performance reVERSE–gesture–reVIEWed includes collaborations by eto otitigbe, Shireen Dickson and Brittany Williams.
The health and safety of our community is our top priority. In accordance with Duke University, the museum is closed to visitors until further notice. The café and store are closed. Find updates and the latest information on Duke’s Coronavirus Response website.
