Hola y bienvenidos a Pop América. Hello and welcome to Pop América. The first exhibition to show the variety of experiments with Pop images from across the American continent, from Buenos Aires to Mexico City, from Rio de Janeiro to New York. The America you'll find in the gallery will be familiar whether you come from down the road in Durham or from Mexico City or from Lima and will also offer something a new; a vision of the people, the places and the objects that filled the mid-20th century in the American continent. The title of the exhibition is inspired by a work by Hugo Rivera Scott, a Chilean artist whose design emphasizes that accent over the "e." What that means is when we say the title of the exhibit Pop Am...and we get to the accent over the "e" we start again [accent] "Pop América." We hear it as a verb, we hear it in Spanish and English and we think about Pop and we think about América in a new light. This is the first fully bilingual exhibition to be featured at the Nasher from all of the explanatory texts in the gallery to this fully bilingual exhibition catalogue.
