View A Material Legacy: The Nancy A. Nasher and David J. Haemisegger Collection of Contemporary ArtThrough a complex and lengthy process of accumulation, Elliott Hundley builds upon large, flat surfaces to create elaborate three-dimensional reliefs from found objects. He often begins with a painting or photograph, then collages over it with layer upon layer of magazine cut-outs, carvings, pins, foam board, and embroidery. The result is an intricate system of conflicting patterns, vibrant colors, and surprising textures, all partially hidden behind a curtain of colored threads, adding yet another level of depth to the image’s decadent surface.
