The Nasher Museum co-hosted an evening of music and conversation to celebrate the fall Music & Protest issue of Southern Cultures, the academic quarterly published by UNC Press with the Center for the Study of the American South. This issue was guest edited by Brendan Greaves. The event featured a performance by Texan folksinger Tish Hinojosa, who has dedicated her career to playing border, country and Tejano music from the southwest, performing in English and Spanish. Presented in partnership with the Charleston Conversation in Southern Affairs at the Center for the Study of the American South. Visitors who purchased the issue received a free poster designed and printed by Kennedy Prints, L.L.C. This event complemented the exhibition People Get Ready: Building the Contemporary Collection.
