Summer 2023 Internships for Duke Students
The Carmichael Award
Eligibility: Duke University undergraduate student

This summer 2023, the Carmichael intern will have the opportunity to work hands-on with objects from the museum’s collection by assisting the Nasher’s Registrar department. Interns can expect to measure for missing and outdated object dimensions; correct and add information to the museums database system; conduct mini-inventories; and carry solander boxes (holding works on paper). Other tasks may include: making bean bag socks and photographing mounts. The internship runs for eight weeks from June to August 2023 and requires a commitment of 20 hours/week. A stipend of $4,000 will be provided.
The Mary Duke Biddle Award
Eligibility: Duke University undergraduate or graduate student
The Mary Duke Biddle Award assists students with living costs incurred during internships at major art museums in the United States or abroad (up to $3,000). Students seeking an award to support an internship at another institution must secure that position prior to applying to the Nasher Museum for funding. For this summer 2023, we will also be accepting applications from those students who have obtained remote museum internship positions. Past interns have worked at museums such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the UCCA Center of Contemporary Art in Beijing, the National Gallery of Ireland, and the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Application Process
THE CARMICHAEL HAS BEEN AWARDED. APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED ON A ROLLING-BASIS FOR THE MARY DUKE BIDDLE AWARD.

To be considered complete, applications for the Carmichael and Mary Duke Biddle Awards must include:
· Resume
· Cover letter outlining interest in museums; relevant coursework and/ or experience in museums and/ or the arts; and explanation of how the internship will further student’s career plans
Applications for the Mary Duke Biddle Award, must also include:
· A statement of acceptance (i.e., letter, email, etc.) from the institution granting the internship
