In celebration of the queer/trans art form known as ballroom, the Nasher Museum has partnered with the LGBTQ Center of Durham and Stormie Daie in hosting the museum’s first ever Community Mini-Ball! Hosted by drag queen Stormie Daie along with vibes set by local metronome mage DJ Vespertine.

Enjoy performances from Mx Princexx Peritwinkle and the Twins, Mango and J. Meet local veterans of ballroom culture as they show us how it’s done on the runway.

Participate in the Mini-Ball drag competition which includes the categories of: Face, Runway and Fashion. Show off your creative makeup skills, your “Naomi walk” or your original costume creations for the chance to walk home with a trophy! Do you have what it takes to impress our ballroom expert judges?

ABOUT THE CATEGORIES:

  • Face: this category is about confidence, beauty and presentation.
  • Runway: this category includes walking like a model and can also include a vogue performance twist!
  • Fashion: from best dressed to unique – it’s not only about what you wear, but how you wear it!
