5:30 PM Self-guided tours within Love & Anarchy
6:15 PM Lecture hall doors open
6:30 PM Talk by Dr. Joe Turek, “The Heart of Art and Medicine”
7 PM Reception

Join alumni and friends to explore themes of love in Nasher Museum’s Love & Anarchy exhibition and to learn about groundbreaking heart surgical advances pioneered by Joe Turek, MD, PhD, MBA, chief of pediatric cardiac surgery at Duke Children’s Hospital. Gallery guides will be stationed throughout Love & Anarchy, an exhibition that shows the nuanced ways these two seemingly disparate themes intertwine over time throughout our visual culture. Dr. Turek will talk about the themes of love and anarchy as he presents innovative procedures at Duke Children’s, including the world’s first partial heart transplant in 2022 (featured on Grey’s Anatomy), the first heart and thymus transplant in 2021 (featured on Good Morning America), and most recently the first ever domino partial heart transplant in North Carolina, saving two babies who needed new hearts. Duke’s pediatric cardiology and heart surgery program is ranked second in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. Cash bar to follow. Co-sponsored by Duke Children’s.
