RESIST COVID / TAKE 6!
On view now through February 28, 2021
CARRIE MAE WEEMS SOCIAL STUDIES 101 PROJECT
“Carrie Mae Weems’s work includes the marginalized and also addresses the inequities of COVID-19. Like a support system, her photographs relieve me of pressure so I can express my anxiety. Much of the stress my family and I have gone through endures. It runs deep, too big to voice, but it can be danced through my body.” – Laura Gutierrez, choreographer and dancer
Join us to watch for a video of Laura Gutierrez, a dancer based in Winston-Salem, who performed her original choreography in response to RESIST COVID / TAKE 6! at the Rubenstein Arts Center at Duke University.
Laura Gutierrez is one of 12 North Carolina artists selected by the American Dance Festival to perform in front of several installations of this outdoor exhibition created by artist Carrie Mae Weems. Learn more about this collaboration.
The health and safety of our community is our top priority. In accordance with Duke University, the museum is closed to visitors until further notice. The café and store are closed. Find updates and the latest information on Duke’s Coronavirus Response website.
