“In these times of isolation, I long for the days of meeting strangers and dancing in a room full of too many people. I was driven to respond to Carrie Mae Weems’s work simply because I saw her art as a message of solidarity to the community.”  — Jessica Wooten, dance artist based in Raleigh

“When I saw Carrie’s poster hanging on the window in front of the ADF studio, I found myself entering and joining the folks standing in the poster, hand in hand, hoping folks passing by would slow down and see as well as hear Carrie’s message, “Don’t Worry We Will Hold Hands Again.” —Tony Johnson, dance artist based in Durham

Join us to watch a video of Tony Johnson and Jessica Wooten, solo artists who performed their original choreography in response to RESIST COVID / TAKE 6! in front of ADF’s Samuel H. Scripps Studios on Broad Street.

They are among 12 North Carolina artists selected by the American Dance Festival to perform in front of several installations of this outdoor exhibition created by artist Carrie Mae Weems. Learn more about this collaboration.

Videos of other dance artists in this series will be released each week. Watch this series of videos of original choreography in response to RESIST COVID / TAKE 6!
